The topics for discussion are chosen by general consent. There is no strict protocol for the discussions. We have civilised exchanges where everyone listens to one person, then another person speaks, wanting clarification or questioning what has been said.
Some members listen more than others, while others have more to say. Everyone's opinion is valued, though it may also be questioned.
The discussions stretch across the meeting time, and the topics are generated by members responding to the requests to bring a topic/issue to the table. These are collated and each one is given a time slot, thereby each topic is addressed. The member concerned introduces the topic/issue.
Issues discussed have included:
- What are the features of successful leadership?
- Should the thrust of an indigenous society focus on multi-culture or integration?
- Do leaders ever learn from history?
A second Discussion group has started. New members are welcome. See Discussion (Wednesday) for details.
