We claim to be the world's first u3a Dry Stone Walling Group and have adopted the nom de plume The Peaky Wallers; no affiliation to a well known TV programme. The Group operates with the cooperation of the Ranger Service of the Peak District National Park. We work closely with them maintaining walls on the North Lees Estate, near Hathersage.
We meet in two groups, each consisting of a maximum of 6 people to allow space to wall. We always welcome anyone wanting to have a go if they are undecided.
We follow the ethos of Learn, Laugh and Live and at the same time have a bit of fun.
There are no charges and walling equipment is provided. Members are expected to provide and wear suitable protective clothing and footwear.
"Just a quick message to say a heartfelt thank you to everybody involved with the Peaky Wallers over the last year, and the huge amount of time, enthusiasm, dedication and support you provide for the Stanage North Lees Estate and the National Park in general. It gives me immense pride that you continually come every month and look after our fabulous National Park and keep things in such fine order, a credit to you all. Wishing you all a fabulous festive period, and all the very best for 2025.
Tom Lewis, Engagement Ranger, Peak District National Park".
